    Adoption

CMHS is devoted to putting pets with people. Please keep in mind that our goal is to create forever matches with members of our community; owning an animal is a lifelong commitment! Deciding on an animal to bring into your home is a process that we nurture from your first click on our website, to walking out our door with your new best friend.

    The Adoption Process:

    1.  Come in and take a look at our our wonderful animals, or view them on-line on Petfinder (link provided at the bottom of this page)

    2.  Fill out an adoption application

    3.  ”Interview” with one of our trained adoption counselors.  This process helps to ensure that the animal in consideration is not only the best fit for you, but for the animal as well.  Interviews are held during our hours of operation: 12:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. Monday-Saturday (we are closed on Sundays).

    4.  Please make sure to have your drivers license or proof of residency with you

It’s that simple!  You are just a few short steps away from adopting your new best friend!

(Out of town adopters: please download our adoption application and mail, e-mail, or fax it to the shelter. Interviews will be conducted over the phone once we have received your application. Sorry, but we cannot ship animals.)

What is the CMHS Most Wanted Program?

The CMHS Most Wanted Program is designed to help us place highly sought-after shelter animals in appropriate homes. Case managers for each animal will choose a home based on the animal’s needs, and the applications for each animal. Applicants will be contacted once a decision has been made.
